Simple and Beautiful Japanese Stitching Art
Missed our Sashiko Workshop Batch 1? Now is your chance to join Batch 2!
Slow fashion is more than just a trend—it is a movement. Sashiko, a traditional Japanese embroidery technique using running stitches that flourished during the Edo period, is now regaining its place in the modern world. Originally used to reinforce and mend clothing, sashiko has reemerged in new forms: contemporary fashion, accessories, and character-rich textile design.
This workshop invites you to develop focus, fine motor skills, and creativity through the calming rhythm of needle and thread. Never sewn before? No problem. Sashiko is simple and beginner-friendly—just an up-and-down running stitch following an existing pattern. From there, you can create beautiful motifs on fabric, tote bags, or even clothing.
The class will be guided by Nining Irianingsih, founder of KAMACITTA, who has over 8 years of experience in textile and fiber crafts.
In this workshop, you will learn an introduction to the history of sashiko, the basic Japanese running stitch technique, and hands-on practice creating a classic Moyōzashi pattern—one of the fundamental sashiko designs. You will also learn how to apply sashiko to a tote bag and take home your handmade piece as a keepsake.
Each participant will receive a beautifully embroidered drawstring pouch containing:
-
One tote bag
-
One 12 × 12 cm piece of fabric
-
One set of needles
-
A needle threader
-
Three sashiko patterns (flower, leaf, and star)
-
One thread cutter
-
One special heat-erasable pen
Take time to relax, stitch, and create—discover the beauty of Japanese sashiko, one stitch at a time.
